Whitman Publishing of Atlanta is set to debut in bookstores and online a publication about LSU football history and memorabilia written by LSU Senior Associate Athletic Director Herb Vincent.
The book is entitled: “LSU Football Vault: The History of the Fighting Tigers” featuring the lore and legends of LSU football through the years along with the magic created in Tiger Stadium on Saturday nights in the fall captured in words, historic photographs and replica memorabilia in the 144 page 12” x 10” hardcover book.
Vincent tells the story of the rise of the Tigers’ program from the very first game in 1893 through the three national championship teams of 1958, 2003 and 2007. The “scrapbook” of LSU football history combines stories about the legendary names – George “Doc” Fenton, Mike Donahue, Ken Kavanaugh, Gaynell “Gus” Tinsley, Billy Cannon, Paul Dietzel, Charles McClendon, Glenn Dorsey and others. The book includes never-before-published photos, artwork and colorful replica memorabilia drawn from the LSU athletic department, campus archives and Vincent’s personal collection. All of the replicas can be removed and displayed separately.
Some of the memorabilia in the LSU Football Vault includes: an 1896 team photo, a 1955 speech outlining coach Paul Dietzel’s first personal tour of Louisiana, the official stat sheet from the 1959 LSU-Ole Miss game, a 2004 Sugar Bowl press pass, and several program covers made into postcards.
Tigers head coach Les Miles provides the forward for the book and the afterword is courtesy of former star quarterback Bert Jones. In his forward Miles says: “It’s the passion of Tiger fans that makes LSU such a special and unique place. I think you will find that the “LSU Football Vault” captures the passion and excitement of LSU football.” |
